The 6 Nations rugby is played by 6 Countries Ireland, England, Wales, Scotland France and Italy. What used to be the 5 Nations until Italy joined in 2000, which is also the first international rugby union tournament in the Northern Hemisphere

The winning team of the 6 nations are presented with a Championship Trophy.

France were the first winners of the Trophy in 1993. The winners of the 6 nations will be handed the Sterling silver cup, which has 15 sides each representing the 15 players, and also has 3 handles to represent the 3 officials. The trophy inside has been replaces instead of the original silver it is now plated with 22 carat gold due to the amount of champagne being poured into the cup which was making the cups inside corrode.

‘Grand Slam’ & ‘Triple Crown’ are also great achievements that feature in the tournament. A’ Grand Slam’ is when a team wins every game, & a ‘Triple Crown’ when a home nation wins over the other 3 home nations. A trophy is also awarded for this.

At the end of the tournament the team that finished at the bottom of the table are know to have won the ‘wooden spoon’ and the team that looses all 5 matches are known as ‘whitewashed’
